1. Navigating the Introduction/Overview/Start Here Section:
Stakeholders and peers will navigate the Start Here section of my course by first accessing Google Classroom, where the course is housed. Upon entry, they will encounter a clear layout with a dedicated "Start Here" module. This module provides essential information, including course objectives, pacing guides, fink’s 3-column table and student assignment trackers. It guides users through the course structure, helping them understand how to access subsequent modules and activities.
2. Engaging in a Short Activity from the First Module:
To engage in a short activity from the first module, users will follow the pacing guide provided in the "Start Here" section, which directs them to the first week’s content. They will complete a small group instruction activity focusing on numerical representations and data, followed by an interactive task that requires them to analyze data and present their findings through a video. This will allow me to see how the rubric works and get an understanding of the clarity of my instructions.
3. Duration of Usability Test:
I plan for the usability test to last 30 to 45 minutes. This timeframe allows participants enough time to explore the course materials, complete the assigned activity, and provide feedback without feeling rushed.
4. Activity Criteria:
The criteria for the activity will include:
- Successfully navigating to the first module.
- Completing the interactive data analysis task.
- Submitting the presentation video by the specified deadline.
- Reflecting on the experience through a brief in-person interview.
5. Reporting Feedback:
Testers will report back through an in-person interview to gauge the usability.
6. Participants in Usability Testing:
I plan to include a mix of:
- Current 7th-grade honors students.
- Fellow educators who are familiar with Google Classroom.
Alternate Plans: If the initial participants are unavailable, I can invite:
- Peers from other grade levels will be needed to ensure a diverse feedback perspective.
- Local educators who may provide insights into usability from an instructional design viewpoint.
