This post will reflect on my contributions to my learning journey and the broader learning community. As I take a moment to contemplate my involvement in the courses 5313: Creating Significant Learning Environments and 5389: Developing Effective Professional Development, here's my self-assessment:
5313: Creating Significant Learning Environments: 89/100
5389: Developing Effective Professional Development: 89/100
Embracing self-assessment has been a transformative journey for me. It has not only allowed me to identify areas for improvement but also to celebrate my achievements. This term, I have diligently worked towards meeting the key and supporting contributions, and the results have been encouraging. Through EDLD 5313 and 5389, I have had the opportunity to further develop my innovation plan and prepare to implement my ideas.
My learning community, comprised of myself, Francys Machado, Rebecca Chang, Rose Rayner, Mia Fayerweather, Samara Marin, Sara-Ann Santana, and many more, was instrumental in my success in 5313 and 5389. Each member, in their unique way, contributed to our collective growth, providing valuable feedback, answering questions, and engaging with each other's work. I am truly grateful for their support and collaboration.
What is working?
Microsoft Teams was an excellent platform for facilitating discussions within my learning community throughout the term. We utilized it for various purposes, from sharing links for live classes to seeking feedback on our assignments. Looking ahead in the program, this will remain an excellent platform for us. The Microsoft teams we used were created for 5313, and I added 5389 to it to continue collaborating without having multiple places to look.
To ensure timely completion of my work, I maintained a running list of assignments and due dates. Microsoft's OneNote became my go-to tool for managing notes, tasks, and coursework, helping me stay organized and meet deadlines consistently. With OneNote, I could seamlessly access required videos, take notes, and address discussion board topics simultaneously. As a classroom mathematics teacher and throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies, OneNote has been my primary tool, and I wholeheartedly endorse it for others.
Utilizing One Note and teams, I completed my Alternate PL: Call to Action, PL Outline, Learning Philosophy, and UbD plan.
What can I do better?
The spring semester as an educator is fast-paced and busy, and balancing the ADL program, teaching three different math preps, being the NJHS advisor and robotics coach, and having personal time was a struggle for me. My time management skills took a toll, and I sometimes struggled to keep up. I spend most of my weekends completing assignments and watching zoom classes I missed as it is my only open time. Going forward, I must adjust my time management and make a pacing outline to help myself keep up.
Contribution to the Learning Community
Throughout these courses, I consistently formatted my ePortfolio and regularly used and improved my APA format. I jumped head-first into the required readings and gained insightful information. Watching videos and reflecting on the information sparked many ideas for course assignments, and I also continued reviewing prior students' work. I often shared my work with my learning community to gain insights to improve and help others. Utilizing Teams I conversed about assignments and provided feedforward to my peers.
