My Impact on the Learning Community: 5318 & 5320

Updated: Oct 5

This post will reflect on my contributions to my learning journey and the broader learning community. As I take a moment to contemplate my involvement in the courses 5318: Instructional Design Online Learning and 5320: Synthesis of Digital Learning and Leadership, here's my self-assessment:

5320: Synthesis of Digital Learning and Leadership: 90/100

5318: Instructional Design Online Learning: 90/100

Self-assessment is vital to continuing growth. Throughout this term, I have made great efforts to meet the key and support contributions. I am deeply grateful for the support and contributions of my peers in EDLD 5318 and 5320. Their feedback and engagement have been instrumental in my growth and in preparing to implement my ideas.

My learning community was crucial to my success in 5318 and 5320. Using teams, our learning community consisted of myself, Francys Machado, Rose Rayner, Samara Marin, Sara-Ann Santana, and many more. Every group member contributed in one way or another, providing feedback, answering questions, and viewing each other's work. This term, we had a large group involved in our teams, which consisted of people at different points in the program. This helped to expand our perspectives.

What worked?

Microsoft Teams was an excellent platform for facilitating discussions within my learning community throughout the term. We utilized it for various purposes, from sharing links for live classes to seeking feedback on our assignments. It enabled me to receive valuable feedback on my instructional design plan, COVA update, and my innovation plan update, while also allowing me to review my peers' work and offer them constructive feedback.

Attending live sessions conducted by Dr. Harapnuik and Dr. Bellard this term was a significant part of my learning journey. These sessions, despite the challenges of a busy school year, provided crucial insights into our assignments. Even when I couldn't attend them live, I made sure to review recordings and ask questions in our team chat to keep up. The insights gained from these sessions were invaluable, and I was able to share these resources with my classmates.

To stay organized, I created a Google doc in which I added class meetings and color-coded the discussion boards. This was an excellent tool for seeing what I needed to do, and since it was the beginning of a very busy school year, it helped to keep me on track.

Final Term Projects/Assignments

Reflecting on the COVA (Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authenticity) approach has been crucial in analyzing my learning and experiences throughout the ADL program. This reflection has allowed me to recognize the profound impact of COVA on my growth as both a digital learner and a leader.

Revisiting my innovation plan has been incredibly insightful. Over the past year, I have developed materials that align seamlessly with this plan. I am now excited to implement my strategy to address the challenges posed by Texas Senate Bill 2124.

This synthesis encapsulates my journey through the ADL program, highlighting the integration of digital learning principles and strategies that I have adopted to enhance my instructional practices.

My instructional design plan showcases the careful consideration of learning outcomes, activities, and assessments, ensuring they are aligned to provide a comprehensive learning experience for my students.

Reflecting on usability testing has provided valuable insights into how my course materials can be refined to enhance user experience. The feedback collected will inform adjustments to improve navigation and engagement for my learners.

What could be better?

While I have made efforts to contribute actively, I recognize that I could enhance my engagement by initiating more discussions and sharing resources with peers. Actively participating in forums and providing feedback on others' projects could foster a more collaborative learning environment.

Contribution to the Learning Community

My contributions to the learning community have focused on sharing insights from my experiences and resources related to the ADL program. I have aimed to support peers by providing feedback on their projects and facilitating discussions around best practices in digital learning. However, I recognize that by actively seeking more opportunities for collaboration and interaction, I can enhance my impact within the community. Emphasizing a culture of sharing and collective growth will ultimately benefit all members and strengthen our learning environment.
