Design

Google Classroom is a user-friendly Learning Management System (LMS) designed with students in mind. I’ve chosen to use it for my course design because my students are already familiar with its features. For course planning, I used Google Sheets and Google Drive, which integrate seamlessly with Google Classroom, making the process smooth and efficient. Google Sheets allowed me to keep everything organized and easy to access throughout planning.

Implementation

To best implement this course, I created student-friendly game trackers for each week for the STAAR blitz. This can be seen below:

Usability

My course design using Google Classroom has been a rewarding experience, rooted in a well-structured framework that prioritizes student engagement and understanding. Leveraging a familiar platform will allow my 7th-grade honors students to focus on content rather than technology, while integrated tools like Google Sheets and Google Drive streamline collaboration and resource sharing.

The "Start Here" module effectively sets the stage for learning, providing clear objectives and an engaging assignment tracker that motivates students through gamification. Additionally, the incorporation of a SMART goal tracker empowers students to take ownership of their learning journey.

However, I recognize the importance of addressing potential challenges, such as cognitive overload. I aim to stagger complex concepts and provide clearer instructions through video guides to ensure students can navigate the course confidently. Ongoing feedback mechanisms will be vital in making real-time adjustments, while diverse assessment formats and collaborative activities can further enhance engagement and support varied learning preferences.

Overall, this course design has been a significant step toward creating a dynamic learning environment. By continuously refining the course based on feedback and fostering a supportive community, I am committed to enhancing the student experience and promoting successful outcomes in preparation for the 8th-grade math STAAR test.
